Mamete Prevostini

Vineyards

Along the south facing slopes of the alps the countryside has been shaped into 2500 kilometres of dry stone walled terraces to cultivate the grapevines. UNESCO recognised the art of dry-stone walls as world's intangible heritage of humanity.

Valtellina is the largest terraced vinery in northern Italy.

The yield per hectare is very low, the grapes are largely harvested manually on the sometimes very steep slopes.
Nebbiolo is cultivated at a height of between 300 and 700 metres above sea level. Modest rainfall, hot summers and a great difference between daytime and night time temperature in the Autumn all contribute to the alpine Nebbiolo’s character, body and delicacy, as well giving it potential to be developed further.

Vertemate

Enclosed vineyard | Piuro, Valtellina.

A vineyard within the walls of the Vertemate Franchi Palace. One of the most fascinating 16th century stately homes in Lombardy, in the heart of the Alps, it survived the 1618 landslide which submerged the town of Piuro. The palace is open to visitors during the summer months. Here we cultivate the Gewurztraminer and Riesling grapes for our Passito Vertemate wine.
